Holistic nutritionist Nancy Morency was diagnosed with systemic scleroderma in 2012. Committed to holistic health practices, she was reluctant to try the drugs her doctors recommended. But then her condition worsened. “I went from being a healthy, strong woman to being unable to get out of bed and dress myself in a matter of months,” Nancy says. Desperate for relief, she finally agreed to her doctor’s advice to take an immunosuppressant (a common treatment to slow progression of the disease).
So imagine how she felt when, after taking the recommended medicines, she grew progressively worse. Describing this dark time, Nancy says, “I was dying . . . I just knew my physical body was shutting down.”
Determined to take back her life, she began a quest to find remedies that would work for her. She completely altered her diet and sought out the advice of herbalists, acupuncturists, osteopaths, homeopaths, and naturopaths. Through this journey, she found what worked for her and was able to stop the progression of her symptoms. Now she wants to share her experiences. “My hope is to help encourage others to honor their own intuition and find a balance of care that works for them.”
